Ok, so, http://www.halcyon.com/irvingd/ looks pretty legit. Here's my
personal first impressions. What're yours?

Star Wars:  Ehhh. I'd still been clinging to the hope that the X-wing was a
hoax. Looks tolerable, but not fantastic -- and certainly isn't
on the level of some MOCs I've seen. Still, the TIE fighter
looks like it's got some nice big plates, which I'm kinda short
            of, so.

I like the X-wing design.  I think it is quite well done.  I can see it will
need some modification for retractable landing gear, though.  So does the
Y-wing.  I think the Y-wing is the best design of the ships they show.  I like
the TIE fighter design, but where did that blue come frome?

And, the Endor speeder-bike looks kinda nifty for a small set,
and if that tree is blocks not a burp, that's a good source of
            brown.

Really neat looking speeder bikes.  I'm glad you get two of them in the set,
too.   The snow speeder looks good, too.  I can't wait to see a regular TIE and
a TIE Intercepter.  I wonder if Lego will have a Millenium Falcon model.  Most
other Star Wars toy makers do, so I don't think Lego can miss out on it.

Rock Raiders: RoboForce revisted? This time in brown and green instead of
orange and black? I dunno. They look okay, I guess. I've always
appreciated the way Lego stays away from camouflage/military
color schemes -- this is getting kinda close. Still, color
            variety is nice.

I had an idea some time back about an underground theme.  What Lego has done is
pretty close to what I had in mind when I thought of it.  I like the canopy
design used, and the rock monster will be useful for role playing games!  It
reminds me of a Trow from the Myth: The Fallen Lords computer game.

Space Port: Huh. I like this. Looks like a good addition to any town setup.
And the custom minifigs look pretty good, as non-plain-smiley
minifigs go. Think women are allowed to be rocket scientists?
(We can leave that in the RTL thread. I'm just wondering...)
I hope this line also includes a few smaller sets, not just the
pictured large ones. Q: is the American public ready for a
return to focusing on our space program? Or is the hype over
            John Glenn just temporary?

Decent looking.  I didn't buy many of the previous Town space sets, though.  The
spaceplane launch set looks good, though.  I may get it just for the crawler.

Adventurers: Yeah, nuthin' really new. The zeppelin looks straight out of
           Time Twisters.

Goofy blimp set.  I'll pass, though I would like a bunch of the spiders.

Ninja:    Ok, these look nice. Some real buildings for once? Maybe this
theme _will_ come close to realizing its potential.

Looks like the red ninjas are all the new sets.  They seem kind of like the
Dragon Masters done in the Ninja theme.  I like them.

Throwbots: Wow. Um, I sure hope this isn't all of the technic offerings for
'99. Weird stuff. They certainly deserve their own number range!
Might be interesting -- and certainly will be a source of parts
in different colors. I wonder if they're "functional" in any way.
Definitely appear more designed for play than creation -- sort of
like Transformers. I'll hold judgement until I see 'em.

Someone mentioned that you probably spin the gear and the arm throws the disk in
the hand.  I agree with the play over creation.

(...) Maybe my hopes were too high. Compare to (URL) for example -- the Lego design is way too stubby and lumpy compared to the long, sleek "real" X-wing. (26 years ago, 3-Nov-98, to lugnet.general)
