All I can say is, LEGO, what were you thinking??
Youve completely wiped neutral grey out of the color palete, and replaced
it with blue-grey.

I thought of something else that really bugs me about this color change.
Harry Potter sets!!
Why? Because so far almost all the HP sets have been designed to work
together. Look at the poster that comes in the sets - on the back it shows a
super construction with many of the sets combined.
Pretty darn cool idea, I think.
|
I believe that this issue will apply to any ongoing theme. I wonder when the
next batch of HP sets are due... Spring/early Summer ?
|
But, what happens when the next batch of HP sets comes out, and kids try to
add the new sets to their super-construction? The colors wont match! Kids
will be disappointed, parents will be surprised. I wonder if the new poster
will show the sets matching in color, or if it will show how out-of-place the
new colors are against the colors in the existing sets.
And, so far, a large portion of the pieces in the HP sets have been grey or
dark grey... I can only guess that the future HP sets will have a large
portion of their pieces as blue-grey or dark blue-grey. Grrr....
|
Dare I say it ? collect the entire set (of colors) < g, d & r >
The issue that I still havnt understood has to do with these so called focus
groups (presumably of kids)... OK, so a (sufficently large) group of kids were
presented with various sets using the different shades of gray and they picked
the new & improved shade over the traditional shades. So what ? How much do
the shades of gray inside the box feed back to the decision to buy when someone
is standing in the aisle looking at the box, hmmmm ? I really cannot see some
7-12 year old kid saying something like hey mom, I really like these colors,
can I have another ?. Ummmm, OK, so long term the kids may feel more
comfortable with the new colors. Perhaps it is something very important, but
very subliminal. Perhaps it will drive repeat business like we could never
imagine... but I dont see exactly how its going to make a difference. Someone
out there want to loan me a clue on this ?
