It turns out he was the local Lego representative and had come to fix the
store's display. We chatted for over half an hour. He wasn't aware of the • AFOL
community. I told him there are thousands of us and that we spend tons of
money and all that. He was shocked.

This explains why Arctic flopped.

He also gave me a scoop (I guess) about TLC plans for the coming years. • More
Star Wars (we already knew). Castle will be around for a couple more • years,
then it might go away again.

It will go away quickly if they don't stop with the damn catapults!  Could
we have another inn and some real town-oriented buildings, ferchrissakes?
Oh, and BTW, we hate Juniorization!

No news about pirates.

Arr, that be news 'at makes me want to unsheath me steel and lop off some
'eads!

Technic seems to be "in". It will
be expanded (no word on how).

I hope that means more good sets from Star Wars, and NOT more Robo-whatever.
I'm sure Technic fans are thrilled to finally be getting gears and axles in
other colors, I really don't like these sets much now.

Arctic seems to be a big flop. They haven't sold
much (Look forward to great sets on discount!).

I doubt I would buy any more of these unless it was a pretty heavy discount.
On the whole, I think the Arctic sets were pretty terrible.  There are a few
nice parts, but the lever of Juniorization is overwhelming.  Unimaginative
set designs as well, tons of vehicles, one base, can't they be more creative
than this?  How about a dog sled team, or a plane with skis?  Hello?!

He also told me that the reason TLC has juniorised its sets is that they • are
marketing the toys toward a lower age group- 3 to 5 years - and that kids • are
more impatient these days. He said that trends change every 10 years,
generally. (only six more years of junior!)

Change it back now.  Then Arctic wouldn't flop like it deserves to.

Dave

(...) I have built a dog sled for Arctic. Here is how I made the dog- Body is a 2x3 grey brick. Hind legs are a 2x1 white brick. Front legs are a 2x2 white inverted roof brick. Chest is another 2x1 white brick, in front of the grey 2x3. They are (...) (24 years ago, 13-Sep-00, to lugnet.general)

Hello all, I went to TRU this morning to see if I could get the UCS X-wing. They had one left but the box was opened and taped and generally looked bad. I asked an employee, that was restocking the Lego shelves a few feet away, if they had another (...)
