Sorry, not to veer off-off-topic, but I had to de-lurk to say that I absolutely *loved* Amoeba Wars. I played a bunch of Avalon Hill games and that one was the best (although I think was one called "War in the Pacific" or something that I also (...) (22 years ago, 27-Nov-02, to lugnet.gaming)

The rules as written definetly make a portable game. Many rule books just include sections with the optional rules. This is neat! The rules you started a great. If I were to play this game I would include hidden placement of sensors and mines. Hmmm, of course you could go for the idea of everyone builds one unit at the start, stats it up and then you place your case (with it's remaining pieces) on the board. You own this case.
