I'd love to see Brickfest move to a central location, but be careful before you
decide to become a traveling show.  Conventions like Origins in the gaming world
have historically performed unpredictably from year to year depending on the
venue, while stationary conventions seem to grow steadily from year to year.

While it may be nice to have a Lego Brand store nearby, doesn't a convention of
this magnitude command the attention of the Lego company even a little bit?
Isn't there some way they might agree to drive up to the convention with a semi
load of cheap Imperial Star Destroyers? Every other genre of convention seems to
get that kind of support from their industry, why not us.

Anyway, that said . . .

Given the criteria voiced in the different messages in this thread, I'd like to
propose consideration of Minneapolis, MN.  We have major convention facilities.
The MSP International Airport is the hub of Northwest Airlines, and  Sun Country
Airlines and is serviced additionally by many regional airlines like Southwest
Airlines and international Airlines like KLM. Additionally, with more than a
dozen flights daily to and from Chicago, it should be easily reachable by
attendees across the country, and from Europe and Asia for that matter.

Many hotels and convention facilities are located right by the Airport, and free
transportation is easily arranged for some venues.  At the center of these Hotel
and Convention properties is the Mall of America, which has a Lego brand store
which is larger then at least two of the three stores in Chicago. Free
transportation is available to it as well (besides the fact you can maybe walk
to it depending on where you stay).

A small contingent of folks expressed interest in moving BrickFest to Indianapolis next year due to its several positive factors: - It is closer to the many AFOLs who don't live on or near the east coast. - It is cheaper to get a hotel room than in (...)
