If you travel to BrickFest by airplane, Washington D.C. is a very good
destination. Fares are generally cheaper to D.C. than to other cities. They
certainly are cheaper from California to D.C. than to New York or Boston or even
Indianapolis. (And rental cars in Washington are way cheaper than in NYC or
Boston.)
Looking on Travelocity at August 2007, the cheapest round trip from LAX to
Indianapolis (on a non-bankrupt airline flying jets) is $385. Right now, Jet
Blue has a non-sale price for Long Beach to Washington next April (the farthest
out they schedule) for $318 -- and it's a considerably longer distance than to
Indianapolis.
Coming from California, I find discussions about the "high" price of BF
registration at $20/day amusing at best and totally misguided at worst. The real
cost is getting there, moving around while there, and staying there (and buying
LEGO). We went to BF 05, 06, and 07 as a group of 4 each time. Each year, that's
about $1200 for airfare, $300 for car rental, and $350 for hotel.
