Time for me to play devil's advocate...
If the verification problem is something that even members get when not
using the interface that I do, then I argue that maybe the web interface
is your solution if you really don't like the system, and who among us
doesn't have a web browser available half the time anyway?

Even members get the verification when using a newsreader
The web interface has several drawbacks :

- It's harder to search for things compared to a regular news reader (I
store all messages I retrieve local for reference)

Well I'd say that depends a lot on what you're used to - I rarely have
trouble searching for posts using the browser interface.

- I need to be online to draft/make a post, while with a newsreader I can
compose it and post later (storing temp posts with notepad isn't
convenient)

Agreed.

- Web browsers are NOT easy to browse through posts, because they don't
display message trees like a good newsreader, and it's harder to keep track
of posts you read and posts you didn't read.

1. Every message displays the entire thread tree at the bottom, until it
gets too large, at which point it can be displayed on a separate page.

2. If you use several different computers (or switch between news & browser)
it's harder, although you can use the the highlight feature. But if you
mostly use the same machine, most browsers automatically display links
you've already visited in a different colour.

- Web browsers generate more traffic. For some perhaps moot, but as I'm
always way over my ISP's limit already I try to watch out for waisted
bandwidth.

Well not sure here, as with mail or news, each post requires 2 massages to
be sent and 1 received. Haven't done the maths...

Though I don't have a problem with ISP limit, reducing bandwidth is a Good
Thing IMO. But that won't convince me to go back to using my newsreader for
Lugnet posting (I still use it occasioanlly for browsing....).

ROSCO
