Next and Prev buttons or links

While one can always, when walking through posts via the web interface, mouse up to the location box and increment/decrement the posting number by one, has there been any consideration to putting a next and prev button or link in a convenient and (...)   Re: Next and Prev buttons or links

(...) Any new news or thinking on this? I think this idea (which got an 83 average from 2 humans) may have gotten lost in the noise... ++Lar (25 years ago, 30-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) Looking at the ratings for your post, it's got a 100 and a 0, maybe it isn't worth 100, but is it really worth a 0? Or is the person rating it a 0 trying to influence the overall rating rather than give their true opinion? Maybe it doesn't (...) (25 years ago, 30-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Next and Prev buttons or links

(...) Yes and no...probably not precisely the semantics that you're describing (could you go into more detail?) but yes in terms of the general idea of forward/backward buttons. It would be fairly straightforward to put next & prev links (or (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) I gave it a 0. That's my honest opinion of it, in relation to the articles around it. It repeated something only 2 days old and one node up on the same thread. I do appreciate Larry's drawing attention to it again, but from a scoring and noise (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Next and Prev buttons or links

(...) I don't want anything fancy in terms of determining what thread I'm in... basically, if the current location (in the location box) is: (URL) the next button should result in the current location becoming: (URL) pressing the prev button should (...) That's reasonable, although from a users perspective, it's often hard to tell whether an idea has been considered, or automatically sent to /dev/null :) If there was something like.. (...)   Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) BTW, when I say "to mark duplicate info down" I mean down as far as possible, not down w.r.t. other opinions or w.r.t. the composite rating. I still would have rated it a 0 even if there hadn't already been a 100 on it prior to my rating it. I (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) I also just rated this message a 0... (URL) I posted moments ago (I've been giving my own messages a lot of low scores, in fact). I wanted to post a "thanks" to Robert for his suggestion, because it seemed appropriate. But even so, my reply is (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) When we have the tables, and the auto-sorting of rated messages.. will we need to see the actual ratings for individual posts? It could solve the problem of being influenced by others, and the problem of depressing people by giving them a less (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) what if instead of seeing a number as the rating (which we can all read and react to) we'll see it as a color - anywhere from #00FF00 for 100 to #FF0000 for 0 - it won't be obvious what the exact rating was (and it doesn't really matter what (...)   Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) In a way, it's kinda like that now, at least in the sense that the amount of color gets progressively stronger as more and more people give input. Thus, something rated by no one is pure gray, and something rated by only one or two people is (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) ah... but I meant instead of the score saying "rating: 50" it would just have a color for rating... though you will lose the color coding for the number of people who rated... :/ :) Dan (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) Er, what I just wrote was backwards. You're talking about having color but no numbers? How is that different from having the numbers? Even the 6x6x6 safe palette shows six gradations of red from black to red, and very few people here (as a (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) it's different because when you see a number, I think you're more likely to think "nonono, this post should be a 70, not a 30" - when you see a color, it's a less obvious thought.... and another question (just curious really) - since most (...)   Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

(...) You mean in the rating colors? It's actually a smooth scale from 00 to FF -- but since the ratings often come out to 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100, these map fortuitously to 00, 33, 66, 99, CC, and FF (the 6x6x6 safe palette).   Re: Next and Prev buttons or links

Re: Strategic Rating (Was: Re: Next and Prev buttons or links)

The obvious reason is so that people with difficulty distinguishing colors or shades of gradation can use your (...) (25 years ago, 31-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)
