But this is the general usage of said white boards, at least in my
experience. Typically, someone would write a thoughtful / silly /
angst-ridden / etc. message from an *outside* source, in order to share that
message with the (relatively) inner group.

Especially under the name of "quote of the day", this new group implies this
same sort of behavior.
And why not? We continually make LUGNET greater than the sum of its parts;
this gives us another way to share these things from outside the community.
