I know this is an old topic, but I was in the Navy at the time and didn't even
know about LEGO trains. I used to be a member of the NMRA, but I can say from
my experience that NMRA folks kinda look down on those who don't 1.Get their
stuff from Walthers catalogs 2.Count every damn bolt and rivet, and 3.If it's
not HO or N scale, you're out!
I fully support the idea of a separate LEGO train association. Bring all the
various LEGO train clubs under one roof, so to speak. But none of the
ridiculous politics that characterize the NMRA should be included either
(remember, we're supposed to have fun doing this-not determining the 'purity'
of others' creations. I simply combined my two greatest loves in life (trains
and LEGOs), then I sought others out who did the same. So if theres others out
there who still share this idea, you can count me in. -Harvey Henkelman
