John,
Well I guess the first thing I'd have to do (like many others) is hord all
the 9V stuff I could get my hands on, mainly track, engines and wheel sets.
Really I don't think I would "bail" on trains, in the past year and a half I
haven't bought a LEGO train set and used the set as designed. Most sets are
just sources of more trains parts for MOCs.
I would be curious to see if something new would replace the 9v series, I
think if they had a new type of train, LEGO would be eager to promote it and
make a varity of interesting sets to get everyone on board.
As for the NMRA, I have really found it to be a big inspiration in my LEGO
train projects and have enjoyed going to the meetings. Also I try to take a
LEGO version of whatever the monthly theme of the month is for the meetings.
Some of them have become very big challenges. I didn't make it to last
month's meeting, and good for me I didn't. I don't know how I was going to
make a weather boxcar / rolling stock out of LEGO.

| Harvey- Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I had to go back and read all of it and found it all very interesting, especially in the light of this recent post which went by mostly unnoticed: (URL) I realize that being discontinued can mean the end (...)
