That sounds like a lot of effort, for demand that will obviously peak
rapidly then dwindle a bit.

Why a lot of effort? It saves Ben a lot of work, and all the buyers some
$$$.

A lot of effort to make the contacts, when there are already groups of people in
contact.

This gives a good idea of initial demand, and I don't suppose the train
nuts dedicated enough to be in an LTC would mind even paying a little more
than the regular price for initial exclusivity.

This sounds a bit absurd. So if you can't or won't join a club you get
"fined" ? Sounds hardly fair.

No, I said that you actually pay more this way.  For any new product, costs are
initially high and then come down.  But, you always have some enthusiasts who
are willing to pay more to be first in line, so let them pay more for getting
some of these first.

This is to get the parts out to the clubs, if there's no immediately easy way of
handling the distribution.  I didn't say it was a {permanent} solution anyway.

Sorry, but I much prefer Tim David's solution. It would at least for Europe
most likely work out a lot better.

For that to work, each representative in each part of the world still has to do
the job of handling and validating orders.  The only practical way of doing that
is through a BrickLink shop, and as I said at the top of my post, I was
considering the case where BrickLink wouldn't allow it.

At least if a club does it, they have some of the resources already in place,
and can trust their members to pay up for what they order.
