(...) i took a miniute and did a little math. these sets are not priced as bad as one might think. 7897 passenger train 501 parts $79.99 price per part .1596 with cost of track removed $60.0025 or .124...per part now this doesn't exclude the (...) (18 years ago, 29-Jun-06, to lugnet.trains)

The new RC trains have been released on LEGO.com. The Cargo set is expensive at $149.00 (URL) switch tracks are less expensive than the regular switch tracks. Someone needs to figure out how to convert them for 9V. (URL) track is a little more (...) (18 years ago, 29-Jun-06, to lugnet.trains) !

(...) Oh, right. Second read I realized what you meant. Here is a crude 7-wide shell built on a 6x28 train baseplate. It uses the 1x2 Technic bricks with 2-holes, the Technic Axle with stud at one end, and Technic Bushings to locate the SNOT 2x2 (...) (18 years ago, 29-Jun-06, to lugnet.trains)

Well it isn't Australian, but we always seem to commandeer all the good stuff from NZ and call it ours. Widely believed to be the first 4-8-2s ever built, these were built for use on the north island of New Zealand in the early 1900s. (URL) Enjoy! (...) A way to overcome the problem of the offset studs on top of the brackets would be placing a (URL) Slope 65 2 x 2 x 2 Smooth without Bottom Tube> over each of them (vertical face outwards) With friendly greetings, M. Moolhuysen. (18 years ago, 28-Jun-06, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

The other problem with it is that it may not work since real studs are a little taller than half a plate. The best I've come up with so far is something (...) I've been tinkering with the "ldraw.xml" file in LEGO Digital Designer (LDD), and have come up with the following list of fixes for good LDD/LDRAW conversion. Lately the focus here in Lugnet may have been on 6-wides again (due to the factory sets), but 7-wides are just the perfect compromise between detailing and reliable operational behaviour. (And (...) (...) In my personal experience, most 7-wide trains run well on layouts with standard curves. IMO 7-wide is in a nice sweet spot between 6-wide practicality and the extra detail of 8-wides. Here's my custom 7-wide intermodal train based on the popular Lego sets 10133 & 10170, as well as a crane. 7-Wide EMD GP38: I built two of these locomotives.
