I built two of these locomotives. I find that building in seven-wide is a fun and interesting experience!

7-Wide TTX Intermodal Cars:

These cars are heavily inspired by the 8-wide intermodal car work of John Neal. I built three sets of cars. The containers are 5 studs wide and 27 studs in length.

Intermodal Yard Crane:

This is a non-motorized static display model. I used quite a few of the angle brackets to connect the vertical brick pillars together in shear. This helps to keep the model from easily falling apart when handled.

Spencer,

These are beautiful. I haven’t seen a lot of 7-wide stuff and this really shows off its potential wonderfully. Can you share any experience in terms of running 7-wide vs. 6-wide/8-wide? I’m curious how these would look running on a 6-wide layout with standard curves. Do you have a rough feel for how many pieces went into the locomotive?

Thanks!

(...) Dear Paul, 7-wide trains are not really uncommon. Lately the focus here in Lugnet may have been on 6-wides again (due to the factory sets), but 7-wides are just the perfect compromise between detailing and reliable operational behaviour. (And (...)
