Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Ben Vaughan
I bought the 8448 supercar about 3 months ago. It's been sitting on my desk at work and hasn't really been touched at all. The doors have been opened probably 30 times. This leads me to my problem. The doors are raised automatically by a spring (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Call Lego, and ask for a replacement. They _know_ that this part breaks often, since it seems to be a pourly designed part in the first place.:) James (who has had to replace one of them already) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

Hi, Can you list the number to call? I tried calling LEGO Consumer Affairs at 1-860-763-3211 (I live in California) and they said something about sending in the parts and replacing the pieces for a charge, which doesn't jibe with what you said. I (...) (25 years ago, 22-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

O boy , do we get all the old stuff here in Europe :( I just bought mine 3 weeks ago and today one spring broke and the other one already has little pieces of black plastic inside them. Now lets see how good costumer support is here. Koen (24 years ago, 18-Oct-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Fred Carcanague
One of my 3 (I got the Formula Flash too) cracked like was expected. I called LEGO and explained that I had both sets w/the defective parts. She said "no problem, I'll send you all 3 replacements at once". After a few minutes I asked about getting (...) (25 years ago, 19-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Joel VanAtta
(...) Yes, this happened to anyone who bought the first round of these sets (8445, 8446, and 8448) because the first round of the hydraulic cylinders was defective. All I had to do was write to Consumer Affairs describing the problem, and they sent (...) (25 years ago, 24-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Apparently, they're done analyzing. My replacements arrived today, and Susan Williams didn't ask me to send back the broken ones. Seve (25 years ago, 25-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Dan Huber
I purchased my car from TRU this past month (I think; or was it Jan.?) and am hoping my parts do fine. So far, using only the one because I have the convertible body build right now, it's working fine. I've had it open sometimes for days at a time (...) (25 years ago, 25-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Joel VanAtta
(...) You shouldn't have any problems with them, even if you purchased it in January. The problem was with a limited number of the first-round cylinders and I'm sure they caught it and cleared it up way before January. Joel (25 years ago, 26-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Dave Baum
(...) I bought mine near the end of December at TRU and it did have the problem. Hard to say how long stock stays in the distribution channel, though, so perhaps January is safe. However, people shouldn't panic and avoid the 8448 on the chance that (...) (25 years ago, 27-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Broken pieces in 8448 Supercar? —Dave Baum
(...) That's pretty surprising. Have you tried calling again? They shouldn't have "dropped the ball" after the first call, but you still should be able to get replacement parts. Dave Baum (25 years ago, 27-Feb-00, to lugnet.technic)

I received the 8448 for Christmas. Untill this last week the "hydrolic" parts were fine, but over the weekend I find the doors would not open.
