Exactly! Han Solo was intended to be a pirate, riff-raff...George Lucas has
been won over to the Dark Side...AKA Disney! Things have gone downhill since
1980. TESB had a dark edge that both ROTJ and TPM have almost completely
lacked. A New Hope was the narration of a timeless myth, a saga. And we just
happened to hear the telling; it wasn't a perfect world, but it was a "real"
world. There were defeats as well as triumphs. Things aged. Things broke
down. There was a harsh "reality" to it. Yes...Han Solo actually shot Greedo
first! And in terms of the story, I think that it was better that way. I think
that Lucas once had a vision, and the hope of profits didn't drive the storyline
the way that they do not. But Jedi and the Menace have tried to be everything
to everyone. Cute and goofy to the kids, heartwarming and loveable for parents,
a little bit of action thrown in to satisfy the fans, a bit of noncommital
romance for those so inclined. Recycled Muck, IMHO. Everything to everybody
(but mostly for the kids), and in the process becoming just another movie series
to market toys around.
