Bram, I think you have nailed it on the head.  I was already planning on
doing this with at least one other AFOL when we each bring one of our
capitals to a local meet.  A single standard does not *have* to be
incorporated on the body of the ship itself.  If someone has a cool idea to
show off, great!  The more original things out there, the better.  I say:
do it!  I personally use very simple, two technic peg docking rings due to
part constraint, but I don't let that stop me.  As I have shown in a couple
of posts, my docking rings are functional and do trick.  Some designs out
there are far more elaborate, and use as much as 4-6 pegs.

But if you also want to join with someone elses, have a 2-4 stud long
adapter ring (you can make it as long as you want, really) in your pocket
and voila: a docking junction between your ship and another.  And it's
excellent for photoshoots at a meet, since why else other than showing off
your ship's detail would you bring it to a meet?  :^)  I think the fact that
we can join big ships if necessary, whether we ever do or not, gives a teeny
bit of life to the genre.

I personally would think it cool to see someone's Blacktron warship crew
*trying* to board one of my ships.

;^)  ...you know who you are...

(I'd have about 40 laser sites pointed at the first thing through the air lock!)

Cheers, everyone!
