Thats what I thought they started out talking about, then things got
complicated.

i.e.  my ship = my adapter = your adapter = your ship
one end of our adapters will be standard, the other will fit our ship.

I think the sheer number of variables here is why we'll have
trouble getting an airlock standard to work.

I think that the idea is not to create a standard airlock, but rather to
create a standard adapter.  One end of the adapter conforms to the • standard
airlock design and can mate with any other adapter.  The other end is
specifically designed to mate with your airlock.  Thus, by attaching two
such adapters together at the "standardized" ends, virtually any airlock • or
docking ring will be able to mate with any other airlock/docking ring. • Even
with multiple airlocks of a non-standard design, only one adapter will be
needed unless multiple ships dock at once.  That saves parts :)  An • adapter
should also be designed to reach past any obstacles on a ship that would
inhibit docking.  Thoughts?
