I can see the proliferation of too many themes being somewhat problematic in someways. First, it could quickly become a nightmare to manage the subtheme page, and also, too many themes could dilute the enthusiasm of building MOCs to a particular theme.

I agree. May I suggest an ideological/vocational categorisation of the subtheme page. That way I can skip right to the pirates and see them all on one page, or the traders, or the fascist dictators, etc...

I can also see someone eventually getting bent out of shape because they created a theme but no one else is building creations for it!?!

I don’t think that any person should expect others to add to their subtheme. Personally I’d prefer it if people didn’t add to any subtheme I contributed... but that’s just me :-)

I guess I’m thinking something like to propose a new subtheme, two or more people would have to build and post a few creations for the proto-theme along with the color/building style guidlines and short backstory. Then the group could vote (via lugnet poll) whether or not to accept the new theme... I don’t know, that may be too formal but I would rather see 5-10 very active themes vs. 20+ themes that are rather dormant. Maybe at somepoint when enthusiasm for a given them wears off it can be offically “closed” to make room for a new theme???

I don’t think that requiring two builders is a good idea, but I definitely think that one builder should go to the effort of building and posting at least a minimum number of MOCs, say three? Seems like a good number to me...

Cheers,

snip (...) I'll second that idea. Futhermore it would be really cool to have this subtheme page part of the .space frontpage (or linked to it). It would also be cool to implement a process where people can submit links for theme-MOCs and have the (...) (20 years ago, 2-Apr-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
