2-wide bunks bug me too. Minifigs are bigger than that, and if you're building
to a 1 stud/foot scale (as I do), 2 studs = 2 feet = a very narrow bed. Mine are
actually 3 studs wide, which seems about right.
I doubt there will be any refit - I already need parts for other projects. Maybe
my next big ship will be less enticing to the fleebnorks :-)
