  Re: Updated To Do lists

(...) Yeah, I've been raiding my eBay and Brickbay stocks! No cuts, and no sore knees though.. I set up a table in the living room to work on. Of course you'd have a hard time finding a table big enough for that mountain! I have a little more (...) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: Updated To Do lists

(...) Well ours are small time scale items. Yours is one big mountain of an item. GRIN (...) And burned by the soldering iron, stabbed by the x-acto blade and horrified by the insides of the switch track. heh heh. Oh and my pointing finger hurts (...)   Re: Updated To Do lists

(...) Gee, Dean and Xan keep on reporting "X is done. Y's completed." And so on and so forth. Meanwhile, I've been working on the mountain all week long, and it's still not finished yet! :) Not to mention, some of my supplies are running low. Had to (...)   Re: Fabric skirting

(...) Nah, I don't see any need to put up the fabric skirting at the dry-run. -Bryan (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Fabric skirting

Do we want to have the fabric skirting at the Pre run? Personally I don't think it's necessary as we did it last year and will do the same procedure this year. Your thoughts. Xan (using Dean's account) (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: Updated To Do lists

David's Gondola program is done. Though I should add in the ability to use a different sensor as well. Just the Big Hogwarts program left to do and to solve that issue with the detection. Whew. Dean (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: Plexi ... again

(...) There is a white lip, it just looks gray in this picture. It's the gray stuff 'above' the monorail track. And there is no overlay, it's a gap. The ends of the plexi pieces are flush with their respective 2x2. Steve "picayune" Bliss (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Reed sensors are not working very well (or too well?)

(...) Robin, what about putting a magnet on the side of the engine or one of it's cars? If it was on the side and we had a little out building on the straight it would trip it... Possible? Dean (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Reed sensors are not working very well (or too well?)

[I'm cross posting this to trains just in case anyone has a idea or fix.] I've finished the reed sensors for the Trolley line. Work fantastically! I've also finished the reed sensor for the Hogwarts. Not so good. In my tests I used a single car to (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc, lugnet.trains)

Re: Switch Track Modification - A better way!

I should have titled this thread as "Switch Track Modification (for those of us that DO, A better way!)" For myself, my points are automated and I can't allow the point to stall the motor or blow the switch apart after x switches. The switch must be (...)   Re: VLC News Release

Also, just a reminder that there is a charge of $3.00 per person for the public show. I'm not sure if you want this in the news release, you decide. Robin (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: TTOS Train Show Details

(...) We may have one parking pass available for our group. I suggest we park at Bryan's place (if he lives close), after we've set up, and then pool in for the exhibit days. (...)   TTOS Train Show Details

These are the details about the upcoming show. Alex, take what you need to construct an email to our members, and also send the appropriate stuff (probably just the same as the News Release) to any of those people (fans!) that wanted to be notified (...)   Re: VLC News Release

(...) We need to have clearance from the show organizers, of course, so don't do anything until you hear a yay or nay from me. I should have a reply shortly. Robin (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: Plexi ... again

(...) Thanks tons, guys. These will be very helpful for our next show. I really like the system. Robin (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: Plexi ... again

(...) Actually I think the apparent overlay is an optical illision. There should be no way those pieces overlap with the bases so far apart. Also since there is no white lip, I am pretty sure this picture was taken during the setup on Friday. (...) (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  VLC News Release

I think we should put out a news release. If we were to get on the TV I think we'd have a good shot at some new members and support etc... - Xan's willing to write one up and send them out but she needs the following: - Show Address, dates and (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Switch Track Modification - A better way!

You can use a motor to control both New or Old Switch Point easily, there are 5 switch points in my layout, some are new type and some are old type, all of them can be controlled by RCX smoothly! I don't know why the modification is needed? (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc, lugnet.trains)

Re: Switch Track Modification - A better way!

(...) The modification allows the switch track to be MUCH easier to move. It is incredibly hard to move the switch from one state to the other. Make the mod and it's smooth sailing. Dean (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc, lugnet.trains)

Re: Switch Track Modification - A better way!

I'm trying to make sure that I understand the purpose of the modification (being the modification guy that I am, I like to know what and why others modify pieces). Is the purpose to get rid of the firm 'snap' that occurs when the switch is thrown (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc, lugnet.trains)

Re: Oh oh, Huston, we have a problem...

(...) The horror is over! I've made the modification (See public message) and it's working fine. (Just gluing now) Except for a scar there is nothing out of the ordinary. It will work great for the show. Also, I finished the RCX Track power (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Switch Track Modification - A better way!

Today I realized that my modified switch track was the wrong way. A right instead of the needed left. After the horror of modifying the first one (I used one that didn't work well, figured it would be best... No so. Nasty, the metal contacts had (...)   Re: Help -- wardrobe truck

(...) First, you should not try to combine wardrobe and makeup into 1 truck. It's never done that way. Secone, don't try to fit too many stations into one trailer. A standard 20 foot trailer would contain only 4 stations plus storage space. Stagger (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc, lugnet.build.minifigs)

Re: Oh oh, Huston, we have a problem...

(...) No, the switches are WAY to stiff. You have to open up the switch and shave off most of the bumps that cause the friction... There's lots of delicate stuff in there. I made the mistake of using one of my switches that was flaky to begin with (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Oh oh, Huston, we have a problem...

(...) That's what I figured... I've been looking at the layout and I don't see any easy way to move things around with out causing absolute hell... Sigh... (See other message to Byran) Dean (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Oh oh, Huston, we have a problem...

(...) Can't you apply what you learned from the first try? Are you willing to let someone modify one of yours? (...) I tried a whole bunch of options. There is one remote possibility, but it requires some serious fudging of the track. Probably not (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Oh oh, Huston, we have a problem...

(...) Um, what exactly does "modify" mean in this context? Not just as simple as removing the yellow switch thingy I'm guessing... -Bryan (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Oh oh, Huston, we have a problem...

Oh dear... I'm building the test for the program building of the hogwarts area and realized that my modified switch is in fact the wrong direction! Ugg...   Re: Weeping Willow

(...) If you want the train to stop at the station you must isolate the track and run it by the MS. (...) There is one magnet sensor before the switch track.   Re: Weeping Willow

(...) Ok I think I've left enough room for all of the above. But why do we need a (motor?) wire running to the track? Also, I'm not quite clear as to the sensor you're talking about... Do we have to place it inside the mountain? Perhaps the dry-run (...) (23 years ago, 24-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Help -- wardrobe truck

This is Alex using Dean's account (don't ask). Okay, folks, it's time for me to publicly admit that I just can't do the truck. I have tried several times and nothing comes together.
