we don't have to go to the three table idea if we (and i think I have)
decide to start robots in the lower right side of your table.

There's three issues with that:

-The robot still can accidentally hit the opponent's flag off by accident
should the flag be placed in the path.

-Crowds love robots coming close to each other and the _possibility_ of
carnage.  After a crowd boring event like rtl10 ProjectX, this might be fun.
Since both robots are aiming for the same flag, it increases the tension and
excitement of the evtn.

I'm just confused as to how to "score" against neither robot getting the
flag.  OR one cross but no flag, or....... any combination of no clear
win.

We could keep with our usual, 2 for a win, 1 for a tie each, and 0 for the
loser.

As a side note, while I lived and died by the concept of part marks in
university, (though I haven't ever drawn a "cross product" like Iain once
did-fricking hilarious, dude) I'm against the idea of giving partial points
for crossing etc.  That's a little too warm and fuzzy for me.

If neither robot gets the flag, then it's one point for each, because it's a
tie, neither achieved the objective.  If one robot falls off the table and
the other makes it, but doesn't get the flag, then it's still a draw.
That's because the goal of the game is to build a robot to get the flag,
everything else is steps along the way.

This is the same for three tables versus two.  The three tables version is a
little better because at least it's definitive who wins because there's only
one flag to deal with, a single goal.  Anything short of lifting (capturing)
the flag is really still a tie in my mind.

If we think over time (and someone clarify if I'm wrong) a good robot that
consistently can get a flag, will eventually get higher points due to the 2
points allotted to a win.  If we give part marks to mediocre robots, the gap
between the "winner" and the losers is much narrower.  Mediocre robots*
which don't really get the flag consistently either due to good hardware or
good software design, would equal each other out with ties alone and the
good ones should pull ahead.

*-the kind I tend to design.
