If we are using an x-y system, does the bot have to be 'off the board' when
it starts or when it's done, i.e. no part of the bot is hovering over the
grid before or after the event.

If the robot has to start off the board and end off the board, this ruins my
feeble plan. I do have an idea to compinsate for this, but I'd like to know.

I think starting on top of the board is okay.  In our robot, parts of the
robot overhang the board.  I think the only thing I would draw the line at
is attaching stuff to the actual board (ie, 2xN pieces)

Meanwhile, I'm scared. I'm not having fun learning NQC, and I want to go back to
RCX1.0 where I feel safe.

C's a good idea to learn, if anything, just to be able to read someone's
source and sort of understand it.  I won't call myself a programmer, but I
can sort of read C and it's kinda useful.

You may consider learning how to program C with a good basic ANSI C primer.
I used "C How to Program" in undergrad, but there are a lot of different
ones-the Kernighan and Ritchie is the default classic one.

If i think I understand what Calum is saying.... then i agree. if your bot for whatever reason, always starts with the griper over the top left cell, then so be it. in my little heart of hearts, the game was over when the last block was (...) (...) I'm using Dave Baum's DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO LEGO MINDSTORMS. It has a tutorial on the CD that isn't too bad. I can turn motors on and off so far. There's a few things that make me go "why would I do that?" but I guess it's important. -Greg (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
