Project X and game play —Chris Magno
While discussing a few items about the contest I has been brought to my attention that there is a very good chance that many robots entered will use more than one rcx. With this assumption, I was wondering how practical it would be to run our robots (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Project X and game play —David Koudys
(...) We could go head to head, 2 'bots at a time. It says right on the rules that anyone using multiple RCX's should build in fault tolerance ;p For those of us who can do it all with 1 RCX, we're not too worried ;) Whatever the group decides... I (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Project X and game play —Greg Hyland
(...) If the robot has to start off the board and end off the board, this ruins my feeble plan. I do have an idea to compinsate for this, but I'd like to know. Meanwhile, I'm scared. I'm not having fun learning NQC, and I want to go back to RCX1.0 (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Project X and game play —Calum Tsang
(...) I think starting on top of the board is okay. In our robot, parts of the robot overhang the board. I think the only thing I would draw the line at is attaching stuff to the actual board (ie, 2xN pieces) (...) C's a good idea to learn, if (...)          Re: Project X and game play —Chris Magno
(...) If i think I understand what Calum is saying.... then i agree. if your bot for whatever reason, always starts with the griper over the top left cell, then so be it. in my little heart of hearts, the game was over when the last block was (...)          Re: Project X and game play —Greg Hyland
(...) I'm using Dave Baum's DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO LEGO MINDSTORMS. It has a tutorial on the CD that isn't too bad. I can turn motors on and off so far. There's a few things that make me go "why would I do that?" but I guess it's important. -Greg (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Project X and game play —Trevyn Watson
(...) Well, I have put both my RCXs (RCXes? RCXen?) facing each other, 2 studs apart, and then i made a hinged cover for the emitters/receivers. Perhaps we should organize, and give everyone who needs them a specific block of IR message numbers to (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Project X and game play —Derek Raycraft
(...) It also makes it tricky for people that build more then one robot. I was originally going to do this, however with my current time constraints it doesn't look like this going to happen.          Re: Project X and game play —David Schilling
(...) I prefer having them all run at once. I think that if we run the robots often enough, everyone will get a chance to see all the robots doing their thing. I don't think I've ever seen a competition where this is done. It'd be wild to see a (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Project X and game play —Benjamin Medinets
(...) no...considering that half the 'bots don't use the RCX 1.0 (with the AC adapter). (...) That, and it would allow the "stragglers" to see the robots in action. And I would have a pretty "easy" day. The problem with that is possible IR (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) The way that is currently stated on the page is: -A set of Starting Patterns is chosen somehow (submissions in a hat, random, whatever). -Each round, everyone runs the same Starting Pattern. ie, if the first Starting Pattern of the day is a O, (...)          Re: Project X and game play —Chris Magno
(...) OOPS. Iain, I thought it was understood that for every "round" it would be a new and different pattern. it would be boring to watch the same robot do solve the same pattern over and over again. Besides, any logic program you come up with to (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

My Entry -- Re: Project X and game play —David Koudys
(...) I finally got a small page together for my 'bot for rtl X Now no stealing too many ideas ;p Anyway, I'll have it up as soon as I get home tonite, so check around 7 p.m. and it should be there. Take care Dave (URL) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: My Entry -- Re: Project X and game play —Derek Raycraft
