Right now, I'm wondering if I will ever bother uploading to Brickshelf
or Geekshelf in the future. There just seems to be too much uncertainty.
I suppose I'll be looking for new places to host my pictures, or perhaps
I'll just not bother.

You might have a point.  This has suddenly become a full time
activity, and is taking alot of time away from other (paying) work.
Maybe I should just shut the gallery down to save everyone the
trouble of fussing over what's on-topic and allow me
to get back to my real job (a precious thing these days...)

Sorry if the above sounds like a bit of a rant, but I'm really
frustrated with how this has been handled.

You cannot imagine how frustrated I am that moderation is necessary
in the first place.

I have not seen an adequate
description of what happened to provoke this and/or what the new policy
is.

I thought this had been covered before in enough detail, but here's a recap:

Brickshelf is visited by alot of kids, as well as adults.  Because of the
possibility that "unsafe" content could be uploaded, pre-moderation is
necessary.  This had been planned for a long time, but due to the significant
internal code changes it would require, had been delayed.  Recent events
moved it to a top, essential priority, and it was implemented.

Now that we have moderation features, we are also "cleaning up" all the
off-topic clutter that had accumulated under the off-topic tag.  Not
all off-topic tagged content was deleted, just non-LEGO related stuff.

Much of that stuff would be on-topic on Geekshelf, as some users have
already figured out.
