Actually, only a few folk in the front row got to "shake" his hand. Touch his hand is rather
more like it. It's one of the more curious things I've done in my life- I guess I came down
with sudden "pope fever" (I am not Catholic), because I maneuvered by way through the throng to
the front to see if I could touch him. It was a rather weird moment. As dozens of arms were
reaching out to him amongst mine, he was about to pass me by. We then established eye contact
ever so briefly. I don't know what he read in mine--probably something like "oh please, please,
please"; I read in his (something like) "tsk, I'd rather shake with all these nuns, but okay".
I remember thinking afterward what a bizarre experience it had been. The best part was yet to
come. At the time, behind the pope, there were a bazillion photographers taking pix of him
shaking hands with everyone. The next day in our hotel lobby were photos of our group as the
pope past by. One was of me just as I was about to touch him! Of course I bought it:)

Sorry. I was referring to a flame from someone else in rtl who still had me riled up:( That
was an attempt at "In my inbred opinion"
