I just stumbled onto mp3 music.  My 4.6Gig spare drive has about
400Meg left...

I wonder how hard it would be to create an mp3-CD player?  Put
together a CD-ROM drive, DOS-on-a-chip, a DSP, and some custom
playback software.  Burn CD's with 10-15 CDs-worth of music on each.
That would be great for traveling. :)

Note: I am *not* advocating creating mp3-based archive CDs for
distribution or sharing.  Just keeping in that gray area of
duplication for personal use.

(...) You've seen the Diamond Rio? (URL) not a CD player, but rather has 32MB of flash. Not nearly as much as a CD of course, but still. (26 years ago, 25-Nov-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) Well, Diamond has already released a portable mp3 player that contains no moving parts. Kinda like a Walkman. Stores mp3's in RAM. I know of a couple of efforts to produce an mp3 cd player. I read the thread about the mp3's, and a few weeks ago I stumbled across this site: (URL) gives you a description of how to build a MOBILE mp3 player, for instance for in your car! dave. (26 years ago, 26-Nov-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) But if you have not BOUGHT the music yet, do you even have a right to duplicate for personal use? I'd check the warranty on the places you are getting these. If they are non-copyrighted, you're fine. Otherwise, I would guess that you do not (...) (26 years ago, 17-Dec-98, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
