Never thought I'd be posting with THAT subject line, but here goes.
I was at a TRU (just southwest of the MoA, on the 494 south service road
at the Penn Ave. exit) for the midnight thing. During the process of
checking out, there was some confusion about how many times my two
copies of pod race had been scanned. I watched the check out person
scan them twice, then scan the two action figures I bought, then scan
the last set again (this was due to it not fitting in the second bag, so
it was still on the counter)
I said... "no, I think you scanned it already" but she said no she
didn't. I was in a tearing hurry to get out of that crowd, so like a
FOOL I did not check the receipt... just took her word for it.
Yesterday, during the day, I checked my receipt. Sure enough, I had been
charged 3 times. 90+ dollar loss!
Fearing the worst, I decided to call TRU to see what I would have to do
to establish that there was an error, if it was possible. I expected to
be laughed at and blown off which is what I would get at most TRUs.
Spoke to a manager, explained the situation and much to my surprise she
said (paraphrasing) "That's such a detailed yet implausible story, it
has to be true. I take your word for it, and besides, even if I didn't,
customer satisfaction REQUIRES that we make it right." After I picked my
jaw off the floor, I determined when she'd be next working so I could
meet her for the refund.
Anyway, I went in last nite even though she wasn't there. Explained to
the CS rep at the front that I had talked to this manager and what the
situation was, she credited my card for it, no questions asked.
Maybe it's just Minnesota Nice(1). Maybe TRU is getting better. But I'm
happy and impressed, even though that TRU didn't have all the sets. But
I got the other ones at a nearby Target Greatland (York Ave N of 494 in
Eagan) so I know there is such a thing as Naboo Swamp.
1 - a known phenomenon. Minnesotans are pretty nice people, really, even
if their government has been too socialist for years. Most of them will
never give you an unpleasant word to your face unless they know you
really really well. This makes checking for consensus very challenging,
because no one will ever say they disagree unless you push them really
really hard. (if you follow up on that thought, do it to off-topic.fun,
eh?)

| I can hear Garrison now. "It's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon. However, there were rumors going around the Lutheran Church potluck that Pastor Inkfist drove into St. Cloud to snap up some SW Lego sets at the midnight sale at TRU. And he would (...)
