Apart from the slightly sensationalistic title I don’t see how this article is a smear at all. It is quite factual and clearly states that he qualified his statement. If you disagree with his anti-choice politics not being spelt out in the article I would assume that they were implied by his political standpoint and books.

As for use as toilet paper, while The Guardian is far from my favourite newspaper, I would suggest that the radio station which aired the initial comments might be more worthy of that status (metaphorically of course).
