And I definitly concur with the idea that laws should, and must, be just.
That said, the posted limit is 100 kph. It is my view that anyone doing
anything above 100 kph is, in fact, breaking the law. Pretty much cut 'n dry.
Whether the QEW or 400 series highways should be knocked up to 120 kph is
not the specific point at this time, the fact is that they are 100
*today*--as such, law abiding citizens who obey the law, will do up to 100,
and law breaking citizens will do over 100.
Now I am definitly also for changing the speed limits and putting them up to
120 (they were at 70-75 mph before the oil crisis of the '70's and before we
went metric ;) )
Y'know, the more I read about these studies about cameras, the more I'm
convinced that it's the people in charge who are idiots, and not the cameras
themselves. Cameras don't cause accidents. A camera didn't jump up in
front of you and go 'Boo!' which caused you to rear-end the car in front of
you--it was the idiot folks who said 'oh, let's change the light timing and
see waht'll happen! We'll get more money!'
If your reasoning for setting up cameras is to save lives, then you'll set
them up as such.
If, however, your reasoning for setting up cameras (and tinkering with the
red lights, et al) is to make a money grab, at the *expense* of safety,
then, well, you're an idiot, and should be removed from any responsible
position, for you're not taking the safety of others into account and are
just in it for your own selfish ends.
Selfish or selfless--is your choice.
I note that the people I associate with that argue most against these
cameras are people I wouldn't want to drive with for they are lane weavers,
red light runners, and just bad drivers all around.
Anyway, that's what I've noticed.

| Larry is 100% correct here. His uncharacteristic succinctness is probably just his not wanting to get sucked back into OTD, just as I do not wish to be sucked back in either.
