Only if you say so, Lar.

"The scurrilous loss of freedom in the name of security, and other changes,
and blindly support(ing) the Prez" would almost be worth it IF we were
getting real value for those changes.  That's a HUGE if, and it just isn't
happening.  I remain convinced that we are getting almost nothing for our
intelligence dollars and nearly zero of value is actually being done to
increase national defense and security at home against the possibility of
terrorism. [Do please note that I , for one, am not so stupid as to believe
that anyone can combat a thing as ambiguous as "terrorism."  A "War on
Terrorism" is no more meaningful than a "War on Drugs" but it will make for
good sound bites.]

So it's more or less business as usual: get the war machine working again
since we have spent so many bombs and other things in Afghanistan, imprison
people of a particular coloring without regard to their rights (I am unclear
on what distinguishes what is being done now from what was done to Japanese
persons circa WWII), impose meaningless circumventions of common rights to
privacy (I presume because sources like TRW and such just aren't enough for
some corporations -- I dunno, somebody wants MORE information), fleece the
people in the meanwhile via rising costs of energy (there's a war on
y'know!), and just generally make everyone feel afraid of the continuing
onslaught from the forces of Eurasia -- er, um, those guys "over there."  Do
you know what your neighbors are up to, BTW?

I know I should not be having these thought crimes, but it's just so insidious.
