In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Tom Stangl writes:

We must also remember that the PROPER way to dispose of the • American flag is
to burn it, not throw it away.

I think people that burn it in protest are slime (if they think so • little of
the US and are citizens, LEAVE!), but I think they have the right • to do so.

Are you saying, in essence (in this thread, and, like all of us, • across
many other threads), that you want to preserve, for example, your
Constitutionally-enumerated right to bear arms, but you want to • curtail
someone else's Constitutionally-enumerated right to free expression?
And

No, Tom states that he thinks does not agree with people who want to
burn the flag, but agrees that they have the right to do so if they
desire.  He does not want to curtail their right to free expression.
I feel the same about groups like the KKK.  I think that they are
raving lunatics, but I also believe the they have the right to be
raving lunatics as long as they do not break any laws trying to
express their opinions.  People are free to believe whatever they want
to, whether or not I agree with what they believe.  The following
quote, widely mis-attributed to Voltaire, sums up my stance on flag
burning and what I believe Tom was trying to express as well.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death
your right to say it."
