This from a text brought to my attention today:
"Of course, there is no way of knowing what Tolkien would have thought of
such newly written texts. It can hardly be doubted that if he ever returns
from the dead, he will soon be busy with a red pencil."
(Tolkien's Not So Secret Vice, http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/vice.htm)
Incidentally, on looking through "Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator" I find
the drawing of Bilbo with the Eagle, and Bilbo is much smaller than the
Eagle. It is generally true that people are tiny or absent in Tolkien's
illustrations of Middle Earth.
Separately, there is a campaign to "SaveHarry.com" from the wiles of
merchandising. I don't think Middle Earth is in such danger; Peter Jackson
too shall pass (and Frodo isn't packing Coca-Cola--yet.)
