Hi Jack,
I appreciate the effort the LEGO company seems to deploy just to please its
adult and child customers. Whatever sparse/complete the part library,
whatever basic/advanced the tools, I am sure the LCAD world will be better
after LXF than before. Anyway, users will use the best for their own usage.
So I expect LDraw and Digital Designer to coexist cooperatively as beeing
the best in any domain is difficult or impossible.
I have a suggestion: could parts releases be on a theme by theme basis
rather than on a parts by parts basis?
The recurrent problem with parts by parts releases is many parts are
actually unused because of missing parts. So the number of actively used
parts is less than the number of available parts.
Wonderfully patient and talented guys (Bernd and Sascha Broich) have
modelled this masterpiece LDraw horse, unfortunately without many concrete
usages because no LDraw knight helmet is currently available.
LDraw has almost no classic castle users just because of this single missing
knight helmet part.
Obviously, strongly themed parts only work together so parts by parts
releases scatter the benefit of new parts between many uncompleted themes.
On the contrary a whole theme release at least adds a new theme.
So theme by theme releases are desirable.
Just a suggestion.
