Must be late in the day... I didn't follow what you are asking. Can you
point me to the info you are referring to, or perhaps rephrase your
question?

Sure. This message: <http://news.lugnet.com/cad/?n=9898>. Todd says:

OK, sounds like, at least initially, the SDK source would only go to a few
people for the express purpose of porting the SDK to other platforms.  If
it's the case that LEGO doesn't want the whole world to have access to the
SDK, then I'm curious what it means for ports to non-compiled languages
like Perl and Python.

And your response is:

Most likely. As you have probably seen from LD, we want to get these kinds
of things out to as many as we can. But we may have to control that
growth, to some extent. Nothing has been decided yet, and I hate to keep
referring back to legal issues, but ....

Did your "most likely" only mean that it'd be initially that way and that
source would be released to the community at large at a later point? Maybe
I'm overreacting. :)

Well, to me the point is to get out to as many people as possible. However,
as I have stated a number of times, we are still early in the process and
have a great many questions to answer. There are legal and business issues
like you wouldn't imagine swirling around this.

I wish I had the ability to answer every question right now, but since we
are still working on this, I can't. As soon as I know more, you will know more.

Hang in there, we'll get there. The point of this effort is to help out, not
make you folks upset!

Jake

I work at a large institution and have to deal with this sort of thing all the time. :) But I'm hopeful, as many companies have gone through those legal and business issues before and come out on the right side.
