Hi Jake,

In lugnet.cad, Jake McKee writes:
- "And in 2002, we will begin a program where LEGO builders will be able to
build any three dimensional creation..." - You know that incident we all
have in our past. Dancing on the tables at a party, tripping on the stairs
in front of a supermodel, we all have them. We meant well, it just took us a
lot longer to do what we wanted to do. But we figured delayed and quality
was better than on time and crap.

Please let me know if you have additional questions/concerns!

Any comment of the part of that old quote that said the designer could "then
order the appropriate number and type of bricks" to build the model they
have drawn?

It was just one dance on the table! Just one! Oh man...

The process we are undergoing right now is just the first step. As we
develop and move forward on one step, it changes the others. Our goal way
back when was to have the brick by brick ordering. But as we started
developing, we realized we needed to understand more about how people would
actually use this type of tool. We realized that we first needed to "bring
CAD to the masses", so to speak. If a large enough user base couldn't build
models virtually, then setting up MASSIVE infrastructure and fulfillment
processes didn't make sense. Plus, we wanted to ensure a user base of core
building was part of the "LEGO culture" among fans of all ages.

So like a good business, we remained flexible enough to adjust for important
learnings. Sometimes it doesn't seem like we are on track because of a delay
or refocusing.

Hopefully that answers that question, and I can live down that memory. At
least until the next party... mmm... dancing on table...

Jake
