Thanks for bringing this up.
I have been posting about some MOCs I built this this year and getting
occasional responses but sometimes none at all, and I figured either people just
didnt think they were that amazing or something.
IMO my best recent MOC, a fully motorized tank got no responses at all on Lugnet
(though I think it did get spotlighted), but plenty of attention at BrickFest.
At BrickFest lots of people would tell me, Oh I saw your MOC online, its
really neat, so clearly people are reading my MOC posts but just not responding
so much for some reason. As a longtime AFOL with my own very active LUG, this
isnt the end of the world for me, although it would always be nice to get some
more feedback. But for a newbie, I can only imagine how disappointing it must be
to post pix and then get no responses.
I think lots of us are guilty of not responding enough to MOC posts, I know I
have been posting more about non MOC issues than MOCs over the past months and
that isnt such a great pattern. Often I find that there will be a MOC that
looks great but isnt in my building field and I dont have any other opinion
except, Nice MOC I couldnt pick out a good train from a great train, and I
certainly couldnt give much in the way of constructive feedback.
Face it, between the various themed websites out there and things liek Flikr
where people can respond somewhere else than Lugnet about MOCs, doesnt exactly
make things any easier. To me, the beauty of Lugnet is that it keeps me in touch
with themes in the hobby that I dont actively build myself. And that too
valuable a thing for he AFOL community to let die slowly.
This is a sort of vicious circle, the fewer posts on Lugnet, the fewer people
will stick around. I guess all I can do for now is like many others here try to
make a point of responding more often to MOC posts and not be shy about posting
my own creations even if they arent hugely important masterpieces. Ive been
building some military type minifigs, maybe Ill post them and someone will get
a kick out of them, whether they respond or not.
cheers
Magnus

| (URL) This recent post> brought me back to something that's been bugging me for quite a while here. People rarely comment on MOCs here lately (with some exceptions like trains). For someone new to a forum I imagine this is extremely disheartening (...) (18 years ago, 11-Oct-06, to lugnet.general, FTX) !!
