Has anybody ever sold just instructions for an MOC they'll built.

If so are there any legal ramifications of doing so, especially in the
context of using LDraw/MLcad to generate the images?

In general, no.  But in your case, I suspect there is a problem.  Not
with LDraw/MLcad, but with the fact that you are modeling a toy with
its own copyright and trademark issues.

I don't think that Robotech toys or other products are currently being
produced, but *someone* owns the rights, and if they should happen to
find out about you, you could be the target of anything ranging from
cease-and-desist orders from their lawyer to a lawsuit.

I would suggest you consult an intellectual property attorney before
proceeding.

If this is the case, then how are the 'Bricksmiths' getting by?  Don't they
use the same LEGO bricks in their sets?

Allan B.

(...) If you made a model of a Lego product (supersized minifig sculpture, etc.) out of Lego and tried to sell it, they'd probably come after you. But using Lego bricks as a medium is OK. The issue isn't the medium, it's what is produced - an image (...) (23 years ago, 19-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)
