Yes, Bley Sucks. I know that, Jeremy Rear knows that. And a good number of
the rest of you out there know that too (maybe even a majority).
But unfortunately, it looks like bley is hear to stay. Im stuck in my dark
(bley) ages as a result. I cant seem to get over my bitterness, from how
TLC let me down by discontinuing the old colors.

I wont be attending Brickfest so Ill just have to discuss/vent this with
you online:
I dont think Ill ever forgive LEGO for changing the colors. The absolute
worst part is how they changed it suddenly and without warning. Even if they
consulted with us first, and we answered Adding new colors is ok, but dont
retire the old ones, would they have made the change anyway? I dont know.
Anyway, my LEGO purchases from retail stores have dropped dramatically since
2003. Parts for MOCs almost always come from Bricklink now. I only buy the
occasional set from S@H now if its on sale and if free shipping is offered.
The parts from these sets (only in singles - no multiple copies) will never
make it into a MOC - they are for display purposes only and get put back into
box or ziplock bag.
So to summarize? All new sets I buy now are only for displaying. Will I get
the UCS Millennium Falcon? Yeah, probably - and display it on my dining
table. Ill get my new parts in the unchanged colors from Bricklink whenever
necessary. Unfortunately, Ill just have to do without for the new parts in
bley or blown (hahaha I like that term), such as the
1x1 slope
brick. I already have a lot of old light & dark grey parts and Im sure you
do too.
Cheers,

Yeah, this has pretty much been my approach. The difference is that I very
rarely bought sets just to display, and now I dont buy any.
Like Bryan, my set purchases are way down - most dramatically in the past year.
The old color sets have finally mostly filtered out of the discount stores,
leaving only bley stuff available at retail. If it wasnt for Pick-a-Brick, I
wouldnt have made any LEGO purchases so far this year.
I do still buy the occasional set, but the percentage of new color pieces is
definitely a limiting factor. I dont mind getting stuck with a few pieces, but
I wont buy a set that has more than say, 5-10% new color pieces. This means I
mostly buy multiple copies of small, low-bley sets like some of the X-Pods and
Racers sets.
As for the bley pieces I do end up with, I save them up and then mix them into a
bulk tub to give to my mother-in-laws 3rd grade class. I dont build with them
or display them at all.
Long-term, Ill probably switch over to the new colors when my old color pieces
get all scratched and discolored. Who knows - maybe there will be another color
change by then, and I can skip right to new bley!
