<big big snip>

Wow!

That's what I get for sitting in the lurch for a while and lurking, huh? ;-)

I gotta say some great ideas about Castle World were raised here, both in this
post, the replies to it, and the one it replied to.
I honestly don't know what to say to all that; for starters, the map you are
all aiming to change is not all formed yet. :-) ...so yes, there's the
possibility of not having it. The "map" that Craigo has planned, I understand,
is so flexible that anyone could have any terrain in their realm as so they
please. OTOH, issues of borders which were raised can't be ignored; and it's
true, there's only so much flexibility that can be provided within two
dimensions.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that brainstorming ideas is great. :-) And
some ideas here are truly awesome, which I never would've thought of (parallel
universes - planes - the whole library deal)...
Throwing out ideas is great. My only suggestion is before we make humongous
radical changes, we can hear what Craig has to say about the/his map. He might
have an explanation that would make us all gawk and gape, and forget any other
ideas we had (and knowing Craig, he could prolly pull that off! ;-).

When it all boils down to it, though, Castle World is a community thing. So if
(almost) everyone in the community agrees to one idea or another, that's
great. Since I suspect we'll *never* have a full-fledged consensus (there are
*so* many ideas floating around, it's hard to pick just one!) it's important
to try to reach an agreement that includes everybody and gives everyone a
chance.

I hope that helps a little. Keep on brainstorming!

P.S. Anthony, about the times, we had agreed a looooong time ago that one's
story can exist in the past or future, or whatever time they please. Part of
my story also takes place 25 years before "now" (0 A.L. - After Lego, IIRC) or
in other words, takes place in 25 B.L. (Before Lego). You're certainly welcome
to do the same. There are many ways to show this. Personally I went with
retelling the tale from someone's point of view, as if they were telling it to
someone in the present. Other ways to integrate it might be flashbacks (like
Wilson's "Locke's story", my story - "The dream", etc.), or even something as
simple as writing "20 years later...". HTH.

Heigh ho, heigh ho, it's off to school we go... <yawn>

(...) A little history here: In the beginning, Castle World was simply a surrogate for the fact that all of us live so far apart and can't combine our creations and make a single awesome community. (...) Being a long-time Magic afficionado, this is the most appealing aspect of realm placement to me. It's not very confusing, unless you want it to be, nor is it too terribly difficult to understand. This also allows (to address a subsequent point (...)
