I'm not sure about specifics on the Mac, but I do know that the zip versions of
the parts updates just get unzipped over the original files on a PC. When
asked, I instruct Winzip to replace all duplicate files with the version from
the zip, and this then updates the files with the newer versions. In order for
this to work properly, each update has to be unzipped in order, and the output
directory for the zip has to be the one just above the LDraw directory (since
the zip file includes ldraw in its paths).
You might make a backup of your current ldraw dir, and then just unzip over it.
This should work, and if it screws things up you can always go back.
