    [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Tim Courtney
Ben Vaughan & all: I am interested in making a Shockwave Flash version of ldraw.org to give it a little spice. Ben, you use shockwave on your marsbase site, and I am confused on how to create things in shockwave. I have visited Macromedia's website (...) (26 years ago, 10-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Ben Vaughan
Tim, All you need is Macromedia's Flash. They do offer a demo for download that has a 30 day limitation. The actual program costs something like $250.00 (US) I think. I'm going on memory here. As for how it works, think of a timeline. Everything (...) (26 years ago, 11-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Mike Stanley
(...) Dunno how Tim is set for getting academic prices on software, but I did note the other day that all of the current Macromedia web-oriented products (Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver) are $99 at our campus computer store. (26 years ago, 12-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Tim Courtney
(...) Wheaton College which is literally down the street from me offers student discounts on software. I grabbed Photoshop 4 for $230 several years back and a former employer bought me the upgrade to 5. Thanks for the suggestion, I will download it (...)          Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Jeremy H. Sproat
Tim, Please, please, please, please, please, please, please do *NOT* rely on Shockwave plugins to access content on the new site. IMO, this is far worse than image maps, because, in essence, it is forcing people to stick to one piece of buggy (...) (26 years ago, 12-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Mike Stanley
(...) Ditto. As cool as Flash and Shockwave can be, they should always be optional, with no real loss of content to those not choosing to use them. I love Flash, don't get me wrong. But I do recognize it as mostly fluff when it comes to actually (...) (26 years ago, 12-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Tim Courtney
(...) Yep. (...) Dang!! I probably couldn't bear to look at a site without its images, and I only connect at 31kbps!           Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Mike Stanley
(...) Nah, images are, for the most part, irrelevant fluff. I'd say 95% of the websites I read for information only, not graphics or anything else. (26 years ago, 13-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Bram Lambrecht
(...) but (...) You're lucky compared to me... I have a 28.8 which never hits more than about 4 Kbps because of the phonelines and other computers everything has to run through. That's probably why I'm so concerned about making the images on my web (...) (26 years ago, 13-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Tim Courtney
(...) Which brings up another issue. Does anyone have one of those gif compressors that take several k out of each file so nicely and conveniently? If so, when the ldraw.org images are done, could you run them through it? Or is there a freeware one (...) (26 years ago, 13-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Mike Stanley
(...) Since we've mentioned other Macromedia products, I've used Fireworks for this. It has a cool preview feature that lets you tweak out an image, deciding on quality vs size and it even gives you an estimate of the download time at 28.8. (...)           Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Jacob Sparre Andersen
(...) Usually I just use PNG instead of GIF which cuts roughly 20% of the file size (on average).           Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Tim Courtney

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Tim Courtney
(...) Hmmm.. Well, it does sound like an attractive option for file size, but IMO its too early since a lot of people still run 3.0 browsers. And IE5 hasn't been out that long. I just got it a couple weeks ago. If most IE users won't be able to see (...) (26 years ago, 15-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: [ldraw.org] Shockwave Flash —Steve Bliss
