  New Partsref is pure bliss

Steve Bliss has just completed a major facelift of the Partsref interface. I think the results are wonderful! Check it out: (URL) made it easier to browse, easier to look things up by keyword, he gives you cross-links to other reference materials (...)   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

You forgot to cross-post to lugnet.off-topic.pun. :) Thanks for kudos. I think there's still room for improvement in Partsref, but I'm very happy with how this version turned out. But I couldn't have done it without Todd's (and I somewhat suspect, (...) (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.pun)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) I spent some time with it, and while i think it's really neat, I miss the old interface, is it still around??? What I like is the ability to see vast swaths of parts all at once, only one category click in. The current one is TOO (...)   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) I liked the keyword feature. But it's really a bunch of already-run searches - what's the use of that? Just use the search box. I had to outsmart it, though, to get it to list all parts. I used a q=* switch. But I think that's the point, (...) (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.pun)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) After taking some time to explore the new setup, I agree with Larry on all points. I, too miss the old interface. It is one of the few sites where I found frames very useful in reducing mouseclicks. I suppose that once we get used to using the (...) (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

Thanks very much! My constructive criticisms: (1) The edge lines don't stand out well enough for these colors: Teal - 3 Brown - 6 Turquoise - 11 Purple - 22 and several other colors could also be improved by more contrastive edge lines. (2) The dark (...) (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) I had always been planning someday to use the word "beige" instead of "tan" for the tan brick color, until I noticed last week that LEGO calls it "Tan" in the new Holiday S@H catalog. Wow. --Todd (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

Is there any way to view it in frame mode like the old one? I liked having the part categories on the left frame and viewing the parts on the right.   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) One BIG improvement would be to crossref parts with the sets they come in. I know getting the data is a huge undertaking, as it amounts to doing inventories of all the sets. But if inventories were actually used in this way I guess this would (...) (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.pun)

(...) Steve, this is a fantastically useful tool, thank you thank you! When I'm online I'd use this over the VEC in LDAO every time. <applause> A couple of thoughts: The links to the part page in the databases only show up when you look at a whole (...) I'm not Steve, but I think it is a great idea that will not happen until we have a well-defined inventory format and uploading mechanism that insures when an eager person supplies an inventory it will promptly become available to everyone.   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) Good to see Larry got the cross-posting right... (...) Umm, I'm confused -- the detail pages are essentially the same.   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) There are a number of places where some set-to-part cross-references are posted. None are complete.   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) You're correct, "multiple" can be different for each of us. OK, how's this? I think Todd's search limit is similar (maybe same code) to the search function for the set database...   Re: New Partsref is pure bliss

(...) No, I don't have all this info, and even if I did I wouldn't know how to arrange it. But if the infrastructure were set up, I would submit the information about the sets I've inventoried and will inventory in the future. /Eric M/ (24 years ago, 2-Nov-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: New Partsref is pure bliss
