What LEGO set took your building to the next level?

I'd have to say the one that sticks out the most is the redesigned Technic Front
End Loader #8453. Not that this is big, or even my first deep encounter with
studless construction, but it was a model (tiny, just 212 pcs) that drove home
just how intricate, strong, and compact a studless model could be when done on
it's own terms (not just "translated" from a studded design). Prior to that it
was the MER set (trying to build an unsprung Pathfinder-style suspension system
was what brought me out of my Dark Ages), but this little gem seemed to capture
all that and more.
