This is another older MOC which underwent a major remodelling last year, primarily to improve interior detail. It stemmed originally from a pile of discounted

    6441 Deep Reef Refuge
433 elements, 5 figures, US$60, 1997
LEGO > SYSTEM > Town > Divers
which inspired a crazy plan to buy 20 of them and build a fleet of fighters from the contents (among other things). Having carried most of that plan out, I resorted to Bricklink for the large number of triple-slope wedges to beautify the fighter nacelles. They weren’t a hugely popular part - a nice final development for what was originally a fairly insane project.

The structural component I’m most happy about is the landing gear, which is very sturdy. Actually it’s all very sturdy - you can pick the whole thing up by the front section... and the landing gear clicks in and out nicely with the help of Technic shocks. I’ll post a pic of a structural mock-up later... there wasn’t an easy way to partially dismantle the ship to show it directly.

I’ve included some builders notes to explain some features, but feel free to ask more questions. I’m considering building other modules for it, but the trouble is I can’t have them all attached at once.

Cheers,

(...) Paul, This is really great,it's nice to see a carrier with more than 4 fighters. I like the Command and Control room, with the monitors and such, the torpedo room is a great idea I want to appropriate, and the big steering wheel is a cute (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) the bow area. I think I prefer the sleeker look of the original, and the way the antennae tuck into the fuselage. The landing gear are excellent. I can't wait to see your mock up of how you did it. I'm not very good with technic landing gear (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Great work Paul! I like the new nose alot, it gives it a heavier feel than before and there's alot more detail on this version too. The four thrusters on each side are very cool. My favourite are the torpedo hatches though. The interior detail is (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) At last!!! And even more incredible than before! The bow design, the torpedo tubes, the greeblies, the fighters, the engines, the gear...absolutely incredible. Just incredible. Absolutely, positively, incredible. Perfectly done. (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Jumpin' Gehosiphat! This rendition rocks! :D Love the missle tubes, think there should be more crew quarter space (Although there probably is and we just can't see it with the limited pics). The landing gear is very good...very clean lines (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Its just so great. e (21 years ago, 30-Jun-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)
  Re: Light attack carrier

(...) It's a very impressive (and innovative) ship, carrying an entirely satisfactory number of fighters (though I can't imagine life would be much fun for the fighter pilots!). To my eye, the new design isn't as good as the old one. The new nose (...) (21 years ago, 1-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) snipped (...) Hi Paul! It looks very nice. I had discovered the older model and think this is a nice improvement. Looking forward to pics of the fighters! Love, Sylvi (21 years ago, 1-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)
  Re: Light attack carrier

(...) Crazy? Crazy like a fox. I hadn't seen this one before, other than that one photo that was posted a few weeks ago, so I won't compare it. All I know is this is a superb model. Who cares if the fighter pilots are trapped in their cockpits, the (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)
  Re: Light attack carrier

Great job all around, Paul, but especially on the landing gear. I've been toying around with retractable landing gear on my cap ships but I haven't come up with a design that would support the weight of the ship. I like what you did. Your design (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Not really much more I can add here that hasn't been said, other than I like the new nose configuration. It rings of a modern airlift transport....c-10 for instance. It really gives it a more utilitarian look. LOVE to see it in a pitched (...) (21 years ago, 3-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) That's awesome. I'd love to have one of those sets at a discount. The triple-wedge formation is spiffy; as others have said, more pics please. --snip-- (...) Paul, I've been a bit behind in my giving of feedback. But somehow I completely (...) (21 years ago, 24-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Paul, I love this ship! It sort of reminds me of a submarine (probably the shape), and I like the concept of a "submarine in space" ... the interior supports this as well, it looks like there are bunks in the engineering compartment? I like (...) (21 years ago, 24-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)
