Who cares if the fighter pilots are trapped in their cockpits, the sheer
number of them more than makes up for it (and your explanation makes sense).
I can imagine these things detaching together and swarming all over some
unfortunate foe.
I like how you keep your ideas grounded in some sort of conceivable
technology - big engines, cramped internal spaces etc, although I am a bit
concerned about how all the fighters survive re-entry into atmoshpere.

Well, to be honest I see atmospheric landing as something not usually done by a
craft like this - and if it did, it wouldn’t be bringing the fighter module with
it. I mean, the whole craft is most un-aerodynamic.
