Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Todd Lehman
Just thought I'd pass this along... Someone wrote today and mentioned that they'd recently got a job with Mega Bloks (Ritvik Holdings, Inc.) as a model builder. They were asking if they needed to modify their posting sig to note this fact. I said (...) (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.admin.terms, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands) !

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Benjamin Medinets
(...) good point....oh and not to give them free advertizing, but I saw a new Ritvik model, the deluxe monorail set...it was interesting but not as nice a layout as the airport shuttle for lego, and not as functional.... but since its new, maybe (...)          Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Larry Pieniazek
(...) They have a monorail? really?? Do you have a URL into their site? They seem to have fallen into the "we better do fancy flash stuff so our site is snazzy" trap too. ++Lar (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Santosh Bhat
If MegaBlok make sets and pieces that we're after (and it seems they are able to make them cheaper too), not only will we treat them with the same respect, we'll go out and buy their products! So we should welcome them into this discussion group, (...) (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Tim Courtney
(...) Speak for yourself. (...) I would only welcome them into this discussion group (LUGNET, outside of O-T.clone..that's what its for - note the off topic) if they are challenging LEGO to make better products. I think LEGO needs the heat turned up (...) (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Peter White
(...) The best way to turn up the heat is to actually purchase the products and to truthfully review them. Competition is healthy. (...) They are all just building blocks, a medium for creativity. Some companies 'juniorise' their products and cop (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Tim Courtney
(...) True, but the situation is akin to say the Lionel vs American Flyer trains of the 50s and 60s. Some were pure to one brand, others mixed, etc. I'm pure to one brand, because I grew up with it, and the quality of plastics is better, and they (...)          Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Dave Schuler
(...) Ah, Tim--ever the rabid purist! What are you going to do when MegaBloks buys out LEGO and turns the original into a clone of itself? 8^) Your purism (though fanatical) is admirable, but you must recognize that, given LEGO's habit of producing (...)           Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Tim Courtney
(...) I'm convinced if LEGO stays true to the system of play, that won't happen. :-) (...) Yes, I recognize that. (...) Yep, I understand as well. For some, that's sufficient, like my best friend's parents who stretch their income between 5 kids, (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Rodney Gentry
(...) Being both a avid AFOL and a O gauge collector and operater (notice O gauge, not Lionel) I will agree to a point. Yes, until the late 1980s, Lionel dominated the market irrgardless of what the others were producing, then along came some of the (...) (24 years ago, 7-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —John Neal
(...) As 7 of 9 would say, "irrelevant". MB can watch all they want. Most people here are LEGO purists (we are in the *LEGO* Users Group Network after all), and as long as they remain in the off-topic.clones NG, I think it is perfectly fine. (...) (...)          Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Tim Courtney
(...) That one took me a few seconds, its been many a season since I've watched Voyager. I was thinking you meant '7 out of 9 people.' ;-) (...) Yes, I agree. MB should stay in the o-t newsgroups, it is off-topic for the LEGO User Group Network, (...) (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Here's a question... Why should Ritvik make what we want just to be a foil for LEGO? Wouldn't it be in Ritvik's interest to make stuff that we actually would buy? If we're not going to buy it, why should they bother? Something to think about. (...) (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Tim Courtney
(...) I'm not saying they will/should do that with that intent, I know they won't. But, I'm saying, I want what they make to have that result. -Tim (24 years ago, 4-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I understand that. But what I'm saying is that if no one buys, the result won't be what you might want. ++Lar (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —David Zorn
(...) Larry, You've got a great point. Fortunately for MB, not every AFOL has to buy for them to do well. The Lego purists can be written off, but the kvetchers are good candidates for potential buyers. The great thing about competition is that it (...)          Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Yes. Since I was addressing my comments to the purists, I exaggerated. There actually are plenty of serious AFO<something??> that buy MB and do significant stuff. Chris Gray, Richard Parsons just to name two that I have seen big works from. (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Dave Low
(...) AFAIK, most MB users are AFOB (Bricks, Blocks, Building), rather than fans of the Ritvik range per se. I'd say most are AFOLs who are willing to make a slight trade off in terms of quality and LEGOness to obtain large quantities of the bricks (...) Well, watching offhand the discussion off off.topic.clone-brands for the last few years, it will be interesting to hear one of LEGO's biggest competitors in the toy aisle.         Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Richard Marchetti
(...) I knew this. (...) Of course. MB is not the enemy here. One of their employees is certainly not the enemy here either! Bad design and the lack of resources (i.e. the bricks we need for a project) at a good price are the enemies we AFOL must (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Todd Lehman
(...) I don't mind clone bashing (for lack of a better phrase) in the regular groups, or comparisons between clones and LEGO, if it helps AFOLs. What makes me ill is seeing reviews of clone brands seep into lugnet.reviews (I think that happened only (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Dave Schuler
(...)         Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Harvey Henkelman

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Aaron West
(...) Very good note and point. MB is a major player and while most of us prefer LEGO, many of us AFOLs look at MB and "hope" they move more into LEGO territory just so we can get more parts at their lower cost (relative). I sincerely hope their (...) (24 years ago, 5-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Paul Maxwell
(...) Like it or not, the price trade off make MB sets worth the investment in some cases. For me, since MB dropped their Castle range, I buy them for parts.         Re: Mega-Bloks (Ritvik) is watching —Gereon Stein
(...) Well, if they are, here's a suggestion I made to Ritvik via their website feedback feature: I'd really like to see a statement about if and how they figure to enter some major European markets, namely the German. The thing is, I've been trying (...) (24 years ago, 22-Mar-01, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)
