Hi Dave,
the average ad works on a pay-per-click scheme, however it is pointless for
anyone to just click on several ads in a row - anti click-fraud mechanisms with
affiliate programs prevent this from generating cash for LUGNET and will
ultimately endager LUGNET getting banned from the program altogether.
It is those clicks that are really attracted by the contents of the ads - these
make all the difference and these generate the real "income". Also, with the
high volume of visitors LUGNET receives, some ads pay off by simply being
"viewed" (you might also say "ignored" ;) )
So please, don't just click on ads to do LUGNET a favor - if you are interested
in what you read, that's where the clicks should go. Evaluating what I am seeing
in my advertising stats right now, things are looking quite fine and in
accordance with the rules.
And again for everyone who probably doesn't like the idea of ads on LUGNET: Just
sign in with your user id and password and the ads will disappear.
