A few (Hah!) years ago we used to get that realistic slow train speed by running our Lionel "O" gauge and American Flyer engines on DC. I don't know of a Superstore in the Ottawa area, so I can't speak for price comparisons with them, but I find variable pricing between each of TRU, Zellers, & Walmart - one being cheaper on some sets, and more expensive on others. Try your local model shop. Look for the mini lights they sell for light model railways and the like. They'll probably (but not necessarily) be cheaper, and powering them could be done by a mains transformer as opposed to an expensive Lego-brand (...) (25 years ago, 6-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
