Hey Everyone,

I’m hosting a Brikwars game on the 11th at my place.  You’re all invited to
join in the battle and or to look at the models on display.  There will be a
13’ Japanese Destroyer on display, plus there is talk of reassembling the
16’ Zakim Bridge to see how well the new support structure works.  Feel to
bring your own models as well.

Now on to the Brickwars details.

This game will be a TL6 Capture the Queen Alien style game played on a
modular space ship.  I have created a map of the ship in advance so you can
plan your strategies.
MAP: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=212700

There will be two teams trying to capture the Queen Alien, the Factions and
the Coalition.  As of our last battle, the Factions were in control of the
ship so they will be starting in the ship’s hangers.  The Coalition, on the
other hand, will be sneaking in the air locks located on the other side of
the ship.

In order to capture the Queen Alien you will need to find her nest.  Private
Jim, may his soul rest in one piece, hid a map on the ship that shows where
her nest is.  To avoid her drones you will need to obtain “stench of alien”
vials.  There are two ways of getting these vials.  The first is a machine
on board that can generate 6 of them per turn.  The second is to find the
instructions so you can make one of them yourself per turn.  Due to the size
of the vials, a soldier must have a free hand to carry one of them.  Note,
if a soldier uses a two handed weapon he can still carry a vial by using his
arm to support the gun.

Located in the heart of the ship is a transporter that is capable of sending
someone to any room on the ship.  Beware there have been reports of it
failing from time to time.  You might get sent to another room or turned
into a hamburger.  (this all depends on if Joe is bringing it to the games).

Each player will be in command of a squad of soldiers.  These squads have a
maximum cp value of 200 and will consist of the following units:
-One Hero
-Two scouts each with only an impact pistol and/or a knife
(see brikwar rules for scout specs)
-One Artillery Sergeant with a siege rifle and the capability of throwing
grenades and nets (remember a siege rifle takes two hands to operate so he
will not be able to fire and throw in the same turn)
-Two Artillery Privates each with a siege pistol, a back pack, several
grenades, and a net(s)
-One other soldier of your design

If you need help designing troops, Dave has written a wonderful applet that
takes the guess work out of it.
http://www.suave.net/~dave/bw.cgi

There are still three 32x32 modules left to build if someone wants to create
something (see '?' modules on the map above).  The specs for these modules
can be found at the following sites.  Please note that the walls should be a
base plate, a plate, and seven bricks tall, in that order.

module design:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=17291

missing modules:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=212763

existing modules:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=19366

IF you are planning on bringing a module, I would like to encourage you to
place a cover on it.  This will add a little mystery to what is around the
next corner.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Jonathan D.

It has been brought to my attention that I might have made this to
restrictive.  Sorry about that I get anal sometimes.

The new squad specs will simply consist of a Hero and 6 soldiers.  I want to
keep the number of troops down so that we can't as easily control sections
of the ship.  The total cp will still be 200cp so have fun maxing out your
soldiers.

Oh, for those who like ninjas, you can have either a hero or a ninja, but
not both.  Just trying to keep things fair.

Well Brikwars is a week away so I thought I'd send an update.

So far I have the following people attending:
Jorge - playing
Lindsay - playing, bringing destroyer
Joe - playing
Shaun - free that day,but hasn't said if he is playing.
Todd - Looking at models, but I'm not sure if he is playing.
Martin - Looking at models.
Dave - ????????

If you're not on the list and are planning on coming please let me know so I
can email you the directions to my place.

For those who don't know, Martin is a visitor from the Montreal club MONLUG.
I think it would be nice if we could get a few more members to come over and
welcome him to the area.  Maybe even show off a few of there models as well.

I haven't heard anything from Dave in awhile so I'm hoping he can come or
can at least let us borrow his modules.  Dave, please confirm.

Since I put a lot of time into designing the map, I would like to know if it
is going to work.  In other words I need to know if all the modules will be
available.

Here is how the map works:
Jorge:
-Hanger
-T hall way
-space dock
-Alien nest
-Lab

Shaun:
-Hydroponics
-Cryo lab
-Freaky lab
-T hall way

Joe:
-Secret lab
-Teleporter

Dave:
-Hanger
-brig
-16x16 storage

Jon:
-Storage1
-Storage2
-Cafe
-Quarters
-Three hallways (along the edge of the cafe and storage1)
-Hydroponics2
-Cargo
-2 '?'
-1 16x16 '?'

Lindsay:
-1 '?'

I've forgotten who built the small hallways.  I think Shaun had the bulk of
them.

I also still have a lot of '?' modules to build.  Does anyone have time to
build some of these?  I'm starting to run out of Imagination.

Jonathan

10:30pm.  What, you asked what the time was.

- A bar (AKA 10-forward)

Maybe I can build a replica of a famous bar then I can call it the re-bar.
Sorry sometimes the puns get to strong for me to resist.

- Holodeck
- Nitro-Glycerin storage

I think I might stay away from the nitro.  I don't want to blow a hole in
the ship or myself.  Fire bad!!

- Meeting room/classroom

I have my last final on Wednesday, I don't want to see another classroom.
Or maybe that is how they torture people.

- Workout gym

I'm sorry, this is the torture chamber.

- Target practice area
- Porn factory/film set (sorry to any who weren't at the last game)

This one sounds like fun.  ;-)

- Ceremony/Theater room (w/ seats & stage)

Should I have the porn stars performing?

- Robo-storage/recharge area
- Interrogation room
- Kitchen (unless we already have one?)

Sorry already have one in the Cafe.

Now these were some great ideas.  I can't wait to start building some of them.

See you all on Sunday

Alas, my plan to put together a module hasn't borne fruit--

That's good because I already built a room with fruit in it.

As to not being able to build something that really is a bummer.  I was
hoping to see some new modules at this game, but all I'm seeing are the same
ones plus the ones I've built.  I can understand having to do real work
though so I won't bust your chops.  Maybe someone else will build a module?

I have to get this proposal done in the next three days, no choice.
I may be able to pull some kind of BW squad together, however, if

The Coalition is typically in black.  We're very depressing.  The factions
didn't have any true color scheme that I was aware of.

A simple TL6 BW squad is 7 troops were one of them is either a hero or a
ninja.  You have 200cp to spend on this small squad so you should be able to
do almost anything with them.  I might suggest a robotic vehicle that is
close to the same size as a human.

Here is my squad with one extra scout (he got sick at the last minute).

Here is a helpful troop scorer written by Dave that I used to create my troops:

Well it's getting close to time:

I think we should decide on teams at this point.  Each team will consist of
three squads (hopefully three players as well).  There will also be one
player controlling a swarm of aliens.

Now do want to keep the teams the same as they were last time with an extra
player on each team or do we want to mix things up a bit?  I don't think
Jorge has to be the aliens this time, but it's his choice.

I have the following people playing:
Jorge
Lindsay
Joe
Shaun
Dave
Myself

I also have the following onlookers who we could probably draft into
playing, but we'd have to supply a squad for them:
Todd
Martin
Tom

Shaun said he'd bring some extra troops and I'll try to build an extra
Faction squad.

<snip>

Here's what we have so far for modules:

Jorge:
-Hanger
-T hall way
-space dock
-Alien nest
-Lab

Shaun:
-Hydroponics
-Cryo lab
-Freaky lab

Joe:
-Secret lab
-Teleporter

Dave:
-Hanger
-brig
-16x16 storage
-Dentist office
-16x32 T-hallway

Jon:
-Storage1
-Storage2
-Cafe
-Quarters
-Three hallways (along the edge of the cafe and storage1)
-Hydroponics2
-Cargo
-1 16x16 '?'
-3 32x32 '?'
-1 16x32 L-hallway
-1 16x16 air lock.

A few facts about the teams before I assign players:

The Coalition is a combined military controlled by the Earth Government.
The Coalition forces are very well funded, giving them standard uniforms and
weapons.  There squads are small, because of the amount of territory they
have to cover.

Over the past few decades the space colonies have started to bann together
and form there own government.  This Faction government controls Earth major
supply of raw materials, causing feuding over prices.  Due to the constant
feuding over these materials, The Coalition and the Faction have started
having small skirmishs.

The Faction, trying to increase there strength, increased the size of there
local militia by adding consripts.  The local militia has there own
uniforms, but the conscripts wear what they what.

Uniforms:
The Coalition's major colors are black and dark gray
The Factions militia uniform is a tan shirt and gray pants (adventure sets)
The Factions consripts can wear anything.

Now with that said here is how I see the teams:
Shaun - Coalition (most of his troops are wearing Coalition uniforms)
Jon - Coalition (my troops are also wearing Coalition uniforms)
? - Coalition (Shaun and I both have plenty of extra Coalition troops)

Which leaves
Joe, Dave, Lindsay as Factions.

Does this work for everyone?

Ah, a TL6 game. . . . man, I wish I could be there.

Do you guys have any other games planned in the next couple months?

I may be moving back to Boston so I wanna know when the next game is going
down. I have lots of mecha waiting to see some action although as I've seen
from the way cp points are calculated I doubt I'd be able to field any due
to size.

Hope you guys enjoy this game, look forward to seeing the pictures.

There's a few potential game ideas out there, but nothing definite at this
point. If you know of a particular date that's good for you, just say the
word and that usually constitues a game!

It'd be great to have you back! After looking over your site (which is
fantastic), if you supplied the mecha :), I'm sure we could have a mecha
BrikWars. A variety of themes is always a good thing!

Hope you guys enjoy this game, look forward to seeing the pictures.

Speaking of which...does anyone have their pictures from the last game up?
It would be good to get a link on nelug.org to them. Unfortunately, I lost
all my pictures from that game due to a hard crash.

For all of those who couldn't make it to this brikwars event, I figured I'd
right a little recap.

The game got off to a rocky start when we sadly realized that Jorge wasn't
coming.  I have a feeling that the aliens he was supposed to bring turned on
him.  Seriously though, I hope nothing major happened to Jorge to prevent
his arrival.  Jorge, please let me know what happened, I'm worried. :-(

Since Jorge was bringing the aliens and a few modules, we had to improvise
some of the games objectives.  The ducts, instead of being controlled by
aliens ended up being the home of cowaring Coalition troopers.  The Queen
instead of having a her nest, we still growing inside an organic kevlar
monkey.  Which apparently has a taste for Guiness.

All in all, I think the game was fairly evenly matched and the space ship's
layout kept things from being to one sided.

Todd ended up spending the entire day taking photos of Lindsay's Cruiser so
I'm waiting to see the pictures that come out of that.

I had fun and I think the rest of us enjoyed ourselves.

With that said, now it is time for the juicy part, who died and how.

1st:  Apparently, I have a death wish, since, as usual, I was the 1st to
lose a trooper.  Destroyer Droid 11489 had a computer crash in the midst of
battle and ended up missing 5 of his 6 shots.  The Faction's Mech and a
trooper with a death gun then took advantage of the droids reboot cycle and
destroyed him with combined fire creating a wonderful bon-fire.  Last time I
spend 47cp on a mech with a Microsoft computer brain.

2nd:  Guess who.  Yes I also claimed second place when Luke, one of my
scouts, got entranced by a Psi-keg.  I think I will let Shaun explain this
little quirk he invented for the game.  So as the scout was mindlessly
walking up the stairs to the bar for a cold one, Dave's hero came over and
vaporized him.  It is the only way I can describe what wasn't left of his
body afterwards.  I didn't even find the dog tags.

3rd/4th:  Nope, wasn't me, because I was hiding.  As Tom's troops opened the
door to attack the Factions mech, an explosive round landed right between
the two troopers.  The two troopers only had enough time to say a few
profanities before being blown up.  A third trooper, acting as back up, was
also wounded in the blast.

5th:  With the door now open, the Factions were able to fire a second
explosive round through three doorways for a total of 16" to create an
explosion next to Conner, my Hero.  Even though I was almost completely out
of sight from the enemy they still managed to do enough damage to blow up a
hero costing 42cp.  Beta team was shaken by the lose of there leader and ran
into the air ducts to cowe..... find a way around the enemy.  Yeah that's
what we were doing, finding a way around the enemy.

6th:  A Faction android finally goes boom.  Granted he did teleport into a
swarm of ten Coalition troopers.  After scattering like the wind, Tom's
troopers easily finished him off with a plasma gun turning the bridge into a
firey mess.

7th:  Guess who again?  Amazons weren't meant to crawl in ducts.  After
crawling around a corner, Elean saw Dave's hero coming up an access shaft.
She quickly threw her grenade at him.  Her aim was perfect, as usual,
causing the grenade to land just in front of him, but after the blast,
Dave's hero just shrugged it off.  Elean said her prayer to her Amazon god
as Dave's bullets pierced though her heavy armor plating.

8th:  I believe was one of Tom's troopers, but at this point most of my
troopers were crawling around the ducts.

I'll let someone else finish this off.  I do remember a huge blast when
Shaun's troops finally joined in the fight.  He blew a hole in the wall with
his blast.

I would also like to add that one of Dave's troops spent the entire game
sitting in a bar drinking guiness.  Just to make matters sillier, he was
about to be joined by a thirsty monkey, but we ran out of time.

For those who were there, I would love to here your accounts of the game.

THIS IS PERFECT!  The fact that the alien was *inside* the monkey never came
out to the players during the course of the game, because we didn't get to the
map.  This would have been fantastic, though!  In order to get it, troopers
would have had to go to the monkey ... who was entranced by the Pre-Kegs!
Anybody wanting to get the Monkey would have to get close to the Pre-Kegs,
quite possibly falling under their influence ... eventually there could have
been saturation, where enough troops were in the saloon that on any turn some
would have their durations expire.  And would have to be reinfluenced.  Add on
to that that most anybody who was then un-influenced after having been imbibing
would have to roll on the Stupidity table, and the KerStagger table ... it
could have been a hilarious fiasco!  Precious!  I love it!

[snipped great synopsis]

For those who were there, I would love to here your accounts of the game.

I just finished a huge write-up of the game (5 MS Word pages, single spaced),
which I will post this evening.  I've only finished resizing about 1/3 of my
pictures so far, and that's the hold-up.  I'll finish those this evening, and
get the whole kit-and-kaboodle online (with deep links for immediate
gratification).

If a horde of thousands minifig scale Alien drones had attacked me, my
Sunday would have been less painful than it really was. For those of you who
don't know, I'm a System Admin in a 7x24 production data center. In a
wonderful display of Dilbert's Manager management skills, my company decided
to pink slip two out of the three system admin, leaving me alone. Me, the
one that barely speaks English, and the one that works with all OS's we have
but is master of none.

I had a maintenance window on Saturday evening, so I got to the office at
6:00 PM. What was supposed to be a 6 hours affair, turned into a 24 hours
non-stop nightmare, filled with Release notes, CD's, phone calls and
Caffeine (Coke+ coffee *can* keep a bear from hibernating). I got back home
at 7:30 PM on Sunday.

I looked for Jonathan phone number in the email he sent (lucky that I had a
printed copy of the directions in my car, unlucky the number is not there)
to call and let everyone know that I was out of the game. :(

My modules were sitting in my Lego room gathering dust :( :(

My Alien Queen died of hunger :( :( :(

I didn't get to play. :( :( :( :(

I didn't get to see Lindsay's ship up close and personal :( :( :( :( :(

I'm very sorry I couldn't make it, I'm sure you missed my modules and the
Aliens, but I hope you had a great time and are still celebrating that I
didn't make it ;)

Hope to see you all at the next meeting.

Jorge, any time that you can't make it is a cause for sadness as far as I'm
concerned. I hope work settles down for you.
